The name of this blog borrows from the parable in Luke 15, often referred to as "the Prodigal Son." However, upon closer examination, you realize that all the characters are "prodigal" (i.e. wasteful or lavishly abundant). The father, in particular, is lavishly abundant with his property, his forgiveness, and his love. Such is the God, I believe, whom we worship.
Great idea - I'm looking forward to reading more! I love the positive use of the word prodigal, so often it's negative. We can be prodigal with renewable resources, and should be thrifty with non-renewable resources. How lucky we are that love, laughter, hope and faith are available to us without limit!
ReplyDeleteMark,
ReplyDeleteThanks for this thoughtful entry (and profile.) Welcome to the Blogosphere. Your thoughts about a Prodigal God remind me of one of Bishop Spong's interpretations of Grace: to love wastefully. It gives a new sense to an Omniscient God as One without limits. And the intersection of the Holy with everyday life is such a call to pay attention.
